Spinthariscope built and tested !
Here are two photos of the homemade spinthariscope I exposed the plans in my anterior post The spinthariscope (PartI) :
I’ve tested this apparel with a torbernite sample from my collection, and after several minutes of adaptation to the obscurity, some flashes appeared, due to the impact of the radioactive particles Alpha on the screen. They have a frequency equivalent to 1 or 2 per second, and each one lasts about 1 second.
Well, please don’t judge the (un)aesthetic aspect of my spinthariscope, it’s just a test before the building of a “real” one, with better materials… In any case it’s a very economical process to see and/or determine the radioactivity of mineralogical samples.
